As the journey continues, the Bad Batch are met with more adversity. The episode starts out with the Bad Batch on their ship where we can see that tech is developing a device that is capable of determining the activeness of their inhibiter chips. Before, tech is able to get the device to work, the squad is forced to make a crash landing on a moon due to their fire fight with Crosshair last episode.
Once the Bad Batch figure out how to repair their damaged ship, the capacitor that fixed the ship was taken by the local wildlife. It turned out the 4-legged creature lives off of raw energy, so it wanted to eat the capacitor.
Omega and Hunter are sent out to go and retrieve the capacitor from the moon’s wildlife. They are able to track it down, but Hunter is attacked by the creature and his oxygen mask gets hit off during the skirmish. Omega is able to put the mask back on Hunter, but Hunter became unconscious. Omega took Hunter’s pistol and flashlight and followed the creature down a hole. Omega learned that the creature didn’t like the light and remembered that it lives off energy. So, she feeds the creature the flashlight, takes the Capacitor and returns to a conscious Hunter.
While Omega and Hunter were on their journey, we were able to see more interesting conversations on Kamino. We get to see Crosshair back on Kamino, where it looked like his inhibitor chip was getting enhanced. The Empire’s goal was clear, they never wanted Crosshair to question them about a mission. We are then introduced to the first group of conscription soldiers of the Empire. These soldiers were meant to show off the power and loyalty, and would serve under Crosshair.
The Kaminoans were clearly nervous that the Empire will choose the conscripted soldiers over their clones . The Kaminoans also had a line in which they said they will need to start the second phase of the cloning process. If the Empire were to choose these soldiers over clones, the Kaminoans would become obsolete to the Empire.
To test the loyalty of the conscripted soldiers, Crosshair and his new crew were sent to take out Saw Gerrera and his crew. They were given the same assignment the Bad Batch failed to accomplish. As the new crew begins their assault on Saw Gerrera’s crew, we see that Saw is not there.
Crosshair and the conscripted soldiers takeout the crew with ease, killing dozens. As the dust settles we see that there are 4 civilians left. Crosshair asks them if they know the location of Gerrera. They say they were just looking for passage off the planet and don’t know anything.
Crosshair then orders the conscripted soldiers to kill the civilians. 1 of the 4 conscripted soldiers refuses to kill the civilans. Crosshair repeats his family line, “good soldiers follow orders”, and then kills the disobedient solider and then the 3 other soldiers kill the civilians.
We can see here that the inhibiter chip is in full effect here. Crosshair looks mean and ruthless here. A good description of Crosshair was said by Justin Pombo of the Bosox Bombas, “Crosshair is a bad bad M***** F*****” and I couldn’t agree more.
On the contrary, as Crosshair returns back to Kamino we see him walk into the Bad Batches’ old quarters where everything looks different. We see him take off his helmet, with a look of confusion and almost regret. We can see that he is trying to fight the chip. Maybe we will see a crosshair redemption?
One thing to keep in mind for next episode, was that Recker bumped his head during the crash-landing, and it seems to have created a lingering headache. We see him complain about this head throughout the remainder of the episode. I am a little worried that the crash landing might have done something to his chip. However, I think the Tech will catch it with his, as of right now, not working inhibiter chip device.
Overall, it was a really good episode, especially for the development of Crosshair. I guess we will see, but once again another good episode.
