Well, there is no sugar coating it, the season 1 finale of “Star Wars the Bad Batch” was not what we were expecting.
As fans coming off of the masterpiece that was season 7 of “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” we were really expecting another jaw dropping ending. However, we did not get that, or anything close to that. We got an episode that almost felt like another filler episode. It fit right into the theme of the season which was, underwhelming and incomplete.
I believe that Justin Pombo of the Bosox Bombas said it best, “Waste of a finale.”
Also, CEO/Founder of the Daily Goat Jason Pombo had this to say, “I rewatched it. Still a 4.5/10.”
Overall, their reactions are in line with the greater Star Wars community.
At the beginning of the season, I was expecting the clone uprising on Kamino to be the finale. That was my prediction, and I felt pretty good about it. Instead, we got a 2-part finale that ended the same way as it started. I at least wanted a character to die or sacrifice themselves for the squad. They couldn’t even bring themselves to lose the droid, Azi. That is why I am so disappointed, we did not solve, change, or discover anything. It was just beyond frustrating from a viewer’s perspective.
We ended off with Crosshair refusing to join his brothers, as he decided to wait for the Empire to come save him.
BORING!
I personally don’t like Crosshair being the antagonist of the story. I loved Crosshair in season 7 of “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and now we are forced to root for him to fail.
I also had a real issue with the character development in season 1. I think Echo said like 2 words that entire finale. Echo was such a promising character coming from “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and he really did not add anything to the show.
As frustrated as I am, don’t t get me wrong there were still some good parts to the finale. All of the good parts dealt with the overall status of the galaxy. First, the death of Tipoca City by the hands of the clones was a brutal scene. The Clones killing their home planet that they just spend the last 3 years defending from the Separatists was heart breaking.
They killed their bothers in the birthing chambers, their homes and nearly all of their creators.
The only survivor seemed to be Nala Se.
Nala Se was taken to a secret facility by Clone Commandos where she was greeted by a fellow scientist. This scientist was wearing the same outfit that Doctor Pershing was wearing during the Mandalorian. So, we at least got that major connection. It looks like Nala Se will be working on Palpatine’s contingency plans that ultimately lead to operation Cinder, Snoke, and Rey.
I am all for connecting the sequels, I actually love the idea of connecting everything. It was the best part of the finale.
But, the worst part of the finale was the actual main characters. They remained stagnant and it looks like we will be getting the same kind of stories next season, which is truly unfortunate. However, I will say this until I turn blue in the face.
Trust the Dave Filoni Process. He has built many slow building Star Wars shows and we just have to trust his process.
He will not let us down.
