August 22nd (August 15th for AMC + users) is fast approaching for Walking Dead fans. We are getting to about a month until the season 11 premier on AMC. There was a new trailer that dropped a few days ago about the new season. However, the trailer did not show anything new until 10 seconds left in the trailer. All the trailer showed was a recap of the show so far. There was Rick Grimes’ voice in the trailer with his famous line, “We are the Walking Dead”. It also showed characters that died throughout the series in seasons 1-10. It showed every location where they have been so far. The new content shown in the trailer was mostly Commonwealth stuff. It highlighted Mercer and the white “stormtroopers”. It also showed the Reapers, which I think is going to be a threat before the Commonwealth. It also showed Yumiko at the Commonwealth “missing board”. I think she is going to take Michonne’s comic book story line when she reunites with her sister. The orange note says Yumiko on it so I think that she will reunite with someone that she lost.
The other sneak peek released was at the end of The Walking Dead’s new show, Origins where they are highlighting Daryl’s, Carol’s, Maggie’s, and Negan’s story so far on The Walking Dead on AMC +. The actors/actresses that play them give their commentary on the character and how much they have evolved in their story so far. In the clip, best friends Daryl and Dog explore a subway tunnel and find a dead body that has clearly been there for a long time as well as some very spooky and apocalyptic graffiti covering the walls. The dead person featured in the clip was apparently in the process of delivering money when the zombie apocalypse descended, leaving them still handcuffed to the briefcase full of cash. This of course could be read as a call-back to The Walking Dead season 1 when Daryl’s brother Merle was left handcuffed to a pipe by Rick and ended up having to hack off his own hand in order to escape. Daryl and Dog do go on their own in the tunnel but we do not know why at this point. I think Daryl wanted to go off on his own to find his love interest Leah (from season 10), and found a clue that made him going down this way. Walking Dead’s showrunner, Angela Kang, teased that Leah may soon return so it’s possible this little clip actually leads to that story.
The biggest questions looming over The Walking Dead’s 11th season are how Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes will finally return to the story, and whether his fate will be similar to his comic counterpart’s. SPOLIER WARNING!!!!: Rick died in the comic book by Sebastian Milton in the Commonwealth 4 times in the chest. Carl (Rick’s son) killed Rick when he turned into a zombie. However, this can’t work in the show because Carl is dead and Rick is no where to be found. With all that being said, I have a feeling that Rick will return to The Walking Dead show in season 11. I think he will be in it through flashbacks and callback scenes throughout the season. There is also a small possibility that he will return in the last scene of the series and the Rick Grimes movies will be about how he got to that point, where the first one is how he recovered, the second one on how he got back to the Commonwealth, and the third one being reunited with his “family”. As a lifetime Walking Dead fan, I need to see Rick Grimes in season 11 in one way or another. We didn’t get to see him at all in season 10. This story started with him in season 1 episode 1 and I want him back in season 11. I also want to see him reuniting him his daughter Judith and son RJ, with the bro hug everyone wants to see at the end with Daryl.
