Season 11B was done for me last week on AMC + but after the mid-season finale on AMC on April 10th, more was revealed about the final eight episodes of The Walking Dead. That is crazy to type. AMC’s most popular show is coming to an end. It was revealed that season 11 will return in the fall of 2022, with a deleted video revealing the date is going to be October 2, 2022, but this is not confirmed. This will mean that the show will conclude sometime in December of 2022. The first trailer for season 11C was released after episode 16 and a teaser trailer from episode 17 was revealed on Talking Dead. There is a lot to unpack in the trailer for 11C but I will breakdown the scene from episode 17 now. The episode 17 teaser revealed that Carol is taking care of Judith and Gracie while Daryl and Aaron are away from the Commonwealth. Usually this doesn’t bode well for kids because of Carol’s history so watch out for Gracie’s death but Judith should be safe for season 11C. You can also see a riot breakout in the Commonwealth’s streets because of the story that Connie published about Pamela Milton in episode 16. You can also see Shira (fake Stephanie) coming to Carol’s house. This might be setting up Shira’s death from Carol so that will be a thing to monitor in the season 11C premiere. Before I breakdown the rest of season 11C’s first trailer I want to point out the hug between Rosita and Eugene. They have been on the series since their introduction in season 4. Knowing how AMC is and when we get an emotional goodbye between two characters, one of them will die. Eugene is important for the rest of the Commonwealth’s storyline, especially with Max. I can see Rosita dying near the end of season 11C so that will also be a thing to monitor as the series comes to an end. Since this is the last eight episodes of the series, expect a lot of well known characters to die. We know Carol, Daryl, Negan, and Maggie will survive until the end because of their spin-off shows after The Walking Dead concludes but the statuses of everyone else is up in the air. If AMC doesn’t see a future with someone and a possibility of them returning for their own spin-off or the Rick Grimes movies, I expect them to die.
Is it Heads or Tails?
One of the last scenes we got in episode 16 was Lance flipping a coin at Oceanside. He lined up everyone in the community (excluding Luke because no one knows where he is and no one seems to care) to see what happens with them. I am not sure if heads means that they will all die or tails means that they all will die or some of them will die but I fully expect some people to die inside Oceanside after the coinflip. You see Lance’s face all bloody and I expect Lance and the Commonwealth soldiers to kill at least some of the Oceanside members. This will mean that most likely Cyndie, Rachael, and/or Jules will die because they are the only ones that fans will recognize. I expect a lot of blood to fly in episode 17 at Oceanside from Lance but the question is how many people will he kill.
Negan & Mercer
Negan made it to the Commonwealth and is meeting with Mercer. This is uncharted territory for Negan since his character was not in the community in the comic book because Robert Kirkman wanted to kill him off. As a result, we will get new storylines with the Commonwealth and Negan that has never been seen before. I think Negan will get sent to the community either by Maggie or Daryl to get more intel and to possibly kill Lance or Pamela. Negan is being sent because the community will think that he is unrelated to the current group because they have never seen him with them before. I hope Mercer and Negan will work together to take down the corruption from Lance and Pamela. Negan will survive 11C but maybe this is a sign that Mercer will not make it. However, I am really excited how AMC and Angela Kang writes Negan into the current Commonwealth storyline.
Daryl has Rick’s Python
The biggest reveal in the season 11C teaser showed Daryl holding Rick's gun. We know that Judith was gifted that gun after Michonne found it in season 9. However, after the Commonwealth taking the groups weapons, it hasn’t been seen since Judith trying to shoot Negan in season 9. Since Daryl is exiled from the Commonwealth for turning on them, how does Daryl end up with Rick’s python? Is it in the woods or a surrounding area near the Commonwealth or does Daryl kill a Commonwealth member and find it on them? Daryl isn’t going to find it on accident so this is a thing that is throwing me for a loop. Is it going to be a flashback and Daryl will remember the memories with Rick? Is Daryl going to find out that Rick is alive from either Judith or Virgil? It could be Virgil since we haven’t seen him since the episode with Connie in season 11 and he holds all the answers where Michonne is and any chance that the group will find out about Rick. Virgil will be seen again in 11C and I fully expect him to tell the group about Rick or Michonne. This might be why Daryl leaves with Carol for his spin-off show. I just wonder about Judith and RJ because I can’t see him leaving them behind, especially after Rick is “dead” and Michonne left. Judith is keeping Michonne’s mission a secret to Daryl, probably because she doesn’t want the only remaining parent figure that she has left is going to run away too. If Judith and RJ survive 11C, I totally see them going with Daryl and Carol at the end of the series. We all want a Rick Grimes appearance by the end of the series but I have a feeling that isn’t exactly going to happen. We will either get a flashback with Rick Grimes in it in episode 24 or Rick waking up at the CRM in Philadelphia after season 9, since Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) was recently in Georgia. Maybe we will get a Michonne return through her signaling on the Commonwealth radio she found something about Rick and that is why Daryl will leave. I am sure we won’t get the answer on how or why Daryl has Rick’s python until the back half of season 11C but AMC sure loves to lay the seeds to a potential return of the main character or at least getting the fans to speculate all over the place about Rick, which I am doing right now.
