I was worried at first if going to Fenway was a good idea or not. I ended up going to the Red Sox on April 17th and 18th with my girlfriend. They were facing the Chicago White Sox. As soon as I got there it was better than I thought it was going to be. Before the game I got our tickets through Seat Geek. I didn’t know if they were legit or not since I knew that the capacity was 12% (about 4,500) people, but I took the risk anyway. Tickets on that website were not electronically downloadable when you first bought the tickets. You have to wait a day or two before the event for you to get them in your email in order to go to the game. They were also only sold in 2 tickets or 4 tickets. You could only buy 2 at a time or 4 at a time. The tickets I got were relatively cheap, so I took the risk, but it paid off.
Game 1: Saturday April 17: Red Sox 7-White Sox 4
Things were pretty much the same as they were if you went to a baseball game before Covid-19. The only things that were different were that when you got there to wait to pass the metal detectors, you had to fill out a questionnaire about Covid on the MLB Ballpark app on your phone. You were six feet apart waiting for the metal detector, but after we got into the ballpark, things were almost “normal”. The game environment was the same. Although it was quieter than normal, it was still a great time. Everyone was cheering for the Red Sox and it felt a little sense of normal. The only thing that was weird was seeing all of the seats not filled. The seats that were not being sold were zipped tied down so that people did not sit in them. Everyone that was there was 6 feet apart at their seat. If you were in your seat, you did not have to wear your mask at all times, even though some people did. People even got very energetic and amped for “Sweet Caroline” and even though I hate that song and tradition, I am glad people had a good time, and we did too! It was also great seeing the Red Sox win, in person, and hearing “Dirty Water” once again.
Game 2: Sunday April 18th White Sox 5-Red Sox 1
A side note before I get into this game, we bought this game solely from an “impulse” buy. My girlfriend and I were only planning to go to the Saturday game but when we saw this available for only 80$ each, we could not pass it up. This game was the make up for the April 16th game that got postponed because of rain. The only things that were different from game 1 was that when we were going in, one of the tickets was not scanning properly. I thought I got scammed but the Fenway worker let us in anyway. We noticed that we were sat next to two other people but we assumed that the tickets were so cheap on Seat Geek because the person that sold them probably sold them as 2 sets of 2 instead of 1 set of 4 to have a higher probability of selling them. We ended up moving to another section that had no people so we had no problem. Worst case, we would have sat there though. There were people that was cutting the zip ties so they could sit closer or all together in their group. A worker noticed that a group of 6 was sitting together, but that was not possible, since it was only sold by 2 or 4. The worker asked them to either go back or to leave, but they went back to their original seats. However. Fenway did kick someone out for throwing a foul ball back into the field of play. I have never seen someone get escorted out by Fenway security and Boston police, until that moment. All in al,l I am glad that I went to a baseball game at Fenway, since we did not get to do that in 2019. I will definitely be going again and hope to make it to Fenway soon! I also will try to get to another ball park too!
