NFL Pro Days normally have been overshadowed considering we have had the NFL Combine which is one of the most exciting offseason events. COVID-19 has unfortunately caused the combine to be cancelled which has made Pro Days more of an emphasis considering these are the only measurables and times we are going to be getting. As I am writing this, most of the Pro Days have been wrapped up. I wanted to highlight some of the best Pro Day performances we have seen so far (times, measurements, scores, and placements all found from https://relativeathleticscores.com/) (*NOTE* some 40 times are via Twitter due to difference in times)
Jaycee Horn (CB-South Carolina)
Jaycee Horn coming in had already been rated as one of the top corners in this class. The son of 4x pro bowl wide receiver Joe Horn knocked his pro day out of the park. Horn despite not doing any agility drills, participated in everything else and he absolutely showed out.
40 Yard Dash: 4.39 unofficial, 4.4 official (92nd percentile)
https://twitter.com/JamesPalmerTV/status/1374785204183764998?s=20
Broad Jump: 11-1” (98th percentile)
Vertical Jump: 41.5” (99th percentile)
https://twitter.com/bcarr_13/status/1374783155975168004?s=20
Horn’s father’s athletic genes were definitely passed down to his son. He earned a RAS score of 9.99 which ranks as the third best score for a cornerback since 1987. With Horn being primarily a man to man corner it is crucial to be able to be fast and explosive enough to keep up with your man and with that athleticism and Horn’s size, he can be an elite man to man corner at the next level.
Rondale Moore (WR-Purdue)
Rondale Moore is my favorite player in this entire draft class. His pro day was one that I had circled that I couldn’t wait to watch. He did not disappoint whatsoever.
40 Yard Dash: 4.29 unofficial, 4.32 official (99th percentile)
https://twitter.com/bcarr_13/status/1374368548798132228?s=20
Shuttle: 4.1 (87th percentile)
3 Cone: 6.68 (95th percentile)
Bench Press: 24 Reps (99th percentile)
Broad Jump: 10-6” (88th percentile)
Vertical Jump: 42.5” (99th percentile)
https://twitter.com/bcarr_13/status/1374365520678547460?s=20
Moore is one of the best athletes in this entire draft. I understand he’s only 5’7 and 181 pounds but he put up some elite numbers at his pro day. The fact that he was able to put up a 42.5” vertical despite being that tall is remarkable. That number ranks 15th all time out of 2,478 wide receivers since 1987. His 24 bench press reps also ranks 21st all time out of 1,641 wide receivers which is to no surprise since we’ve seen Moore squat 600 pounds before while at Purdue. I think he can be one of the best slot wide receivers in the game at the next level.
Kyle Pitts (TE-Florida)
This shouldn’t come as a surprise that Kyle Pitts impressed at his Pro Day.
40 Yard Dash: 4.44 unofficial/official (99th percentile)
https://twitter.com/bcarr_13/status/1377295086665490438?s=20
Broad Jump: 10-9” (99th percentile)
We knew that Pitts was going to have a fast 40 time. His 4.44 time ranks 8th out of 912 tight ends who have ran the 40 since 1987 despite being 6’5 246 pounds. His 10-9” broad jump also put him at an elite ranking. He finished 12th out of 908 tight ends who have done the broad jump. However what I came away with being the most impressive part of his pro day, was his wingspan. Pitts posted the highest wingspan for any tight end or wide receiver over the past 20 years with a ridiculous 83 ⅜” wingspan. Pitts I like to say is a unicorn and his pro day once again proved that to be true.
Jayson Oweh (DE-Penn State)
If anyone took advantage of their pro day to boost their stock, it was Penn State’s Jayson Oweh. He had one of the best Pro Days of the entire offseason.
40 Yard Dash: 4.36 unofficial/4.37 official (100th percentile)
https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1375115353311838209?s=20
Broad Jump: 11-2” (100th percentile)
https://twitter.com/PennStateOnBTN/status/1375104490651725829?s=20
Vertical Jump: 39.5” (98th percentile)
https://twitter.com/PennStateOnBTN/status/1375114103107244036?s=20
Shuttle: 4.2 (94th percentile)
3-Cone: 6.9 (97th percentile)
Oweh was phenomenal. His 40 yard dash time ranks as the 2nd best time out of 1,345 DE since 1987 and his broad jump was the single best broad jump ever recorded by a DE since 1987. His RAS athletic score of 9.93 ranked as the 11th best DE score. He made a lot of plays behind the scrimmage for the Nittany Lions, however he was not seen by a lot of scouts as a top 5 player at his position. With freaky times and measurables, he should see his draft stock take a significant boost.
Micah Parsons (LB-Penn State)
If Micah Parsons already wasn’t the best linebacker in this class, his pro day helped solidify his case.
40 Yard Dash: 4.39 official (100th percentile)
https://twitter.com/MySportsUpdate/status/1375108927210291206?s=20
Broad Jump: 10-6” (96th percentile)
3-Cone: 6.96 (87th percentile)
Parsons with the year off that he took from football really took that time to workout to get ready for the league. It paid off with a blazing 40 time that ranked 4th out of 2125 linebackers since 1987. His broad jump and 3-cone drills were also pretty impressive in their own right. Parsons’ speed on the football field is something that is one of his strengths and that speed was showcased at Penn State’s pro day, ensuring that Parsons will be a top 15 pick this year.
Ja’Marr Chase (WR-LSU)
The WR1 in this class in my opinion proved a lot of doubters wrong who said that he wasn’t an elite athlete and that he was “slow”. He put on a show.
40 Yard Dash: 4.38 unofficial/official (96th percentile)
https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1377268479573831682?s=20
Vertical Jump: 41” (98th percentile)
https://twitter.com/brgridiron/status/1377267932867215361?s=20
Broad Jump: 11-0” (98th percentile)
Bench Press: 23 Reps (98th percentile)
Shuttle: 3.98 (98th percentile)
Chase blew everyone away. He showcased everything that you can think of, his speed, his explosiveness, his agility, and his strength. He’s the total package at the position and if there were any doubts about him not being an elite athlete, they have been put to rest. Chase finished with a RAS score of 9.89 which ranked him at 28th out of 2497 wide receivers since 1987.
Terrace Marshall Jr. (WR-LSU)
Chase’s running mate Terrace Marshall Jr. had as good if not a better pro day than Chase did.
40 Yard Dash: 4.38 unofficial/official (96th percentile)
https://twitter.com/LSUfootball/status/1377294617591353345?s=20
Vertical Jump: 39” (92nd percentile)
Broad Jump: 10-5” (84th percentile)
Bench Press: 19 Reps (91st percentile)
https://twitter.com/LSUfootball/status/1377267817578291202?s=20
Marshall had a massive pro day. I believe with this performance he easily could have just catapulted himself to being a first round pick. His 6’2 205 pound frame along with his sub 4.4 speed and explosiveness, is something to completely marvel at. Marshall was so good that he earned himself a 9.94 RAS score which has him ranked 15th out of 2497 wide receivers since 1987. An elite athlete who earned himself some money after that workout.
Patrick Surtain II (CB-Alabama)
Another player who also had a dad who played in the NFL. Patrick Surtain II’s father Patrick Surtain I was 3 time pro bowl CB for the Miami Dolphins and the Kansas City Chiefs. His son was passed along his elite athletic traits because he had quite an impressive pro day.
40 Yard Dash: 4.42 official (88th percentile)
https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1374454112327069699?s=20
Bench Press: 18 reps (89th percentile)
Vertical Jump: 39” (91st percentile)
Broad Jump: 10-1” (96th percentile)
Surtain coming into this pro day was already my CB1 in the class but I was blown away by how great he tested. He’s got the size being 6’2 and is fast along with being very explosive. He will end up being a very good NFL cornerback in the future.
Justin Fields (QB-Ohio State)
We have our only QB on the list with Ohio State’s Justin Fields. Fields competed in one athletic event at the Pro Day which was the 40 yard dash.
40 Yard Dash: 4.44 official (100th percentile)
https://twitter.com/MySportsUpdate/status/1376935479032082432?s=20
Fields as everyone knows is fast and he is an elite athlete. But that’s not even what I would say was the best part of his pro day. The best part was when Fields got a chance to show scouts his arm talent and throw the football around.
https://twitter.com/bcarr_13/status/1376957438201565184?s=20
https://twitter.com/MySportsUpdate/status/1376957998938095620?s=20
Effortless. Fields makes it look so easy and I think maybe out of all of the quarterbacks we had seen throw footballs in front of scouts, Fields I think looked the best out of everyone for a guy that a lot of people are fading which seems to be blasphemous at this point.
Rashawn Slater (OT-Northwestern)
Rashawn Slater opted out this past season due to the pandemic and he did not take any days off getting ready for this exact day where he got to show NFL scouts what he is made of and he did not disappoint.
40 Yard Dash: 4.88 unofficial/official (99th percentile)
https://twitter.com/PFN365/status/1369365183345332234?s=20
Bench Press: 33 Reps (97th percentile)
Broad Jump: 9-4” (93rd percentile)
Shuttle: 4.45 (97th percentile)
3 Cone: 7.48 (89th percentile)
Slater was extremely impressive who looked great at every event. He was already one of the top offensive line prospects in this draft class and he has solidified himself as a top 15 pick in this year’s NFL Draft.
