*WARNING THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS OF THE SEASON PREMIERE*
I will do anything for Dave Filoni. This man has single handedly made the Clone Wars into one of the best eras in all of Star Wars. The story that he has created is one of the most intriguing and entertaining eras in all of Star Wars. And it looks like The Bad Batch is going to continue this great story telling.
The premiere of Star Wars: The Bad Batch, was 70 minutes long, and I couldn’t take my eyes off of it. First, we started out by getting the animated version of the comic “The Last Padawan.”
“The Last Padawan” was a Star Wars comic that debuted in 2015 and showed the life of Caleb Dume AKA Kanan Jarrus. Kanan Jarrus was a Jedi that survived order 66 and was one of the main characters in Star Wars: Rebels. The Bad Batch made us relive order 66 again through Kanan’s experience. The Bad Batch witnessed the slaughtering of Jedi master, Billaba.
We also got to see how the Bad Batch reacted to order 66. We learned that their inhibiter chips did not active when the order was given, except for Crosshair. His chip did activate, but he was able to control it a lot better than the “Regs” as clone force 99 says.
Confused on what was going on, The Bad Batch left for Kamino after order 66 was activated, which was very different. We got our first look at Omega, a female clone who, like the bad batch, had genetic alterations. She is a medical assistant to Nana Se, the medical doctor of the Kaminoans. Also, while on Kamino we see Tarkin who is in charge of the clone transition into the Empire. He does not like the clones and says that they will be, “discontinued due to their cost.”
As the story continues Tarkin orders the Bad Batch to gun down a group of civilans led by Saw Gerrera. Hunter ultimately disobeyed the orders given by Tarkin. This is all caught on a probe droid that was sent by Tarkin to spy on the bunch. After, Hunter decides to disobey the orders, Crosshair’s chip causes him to argue with Hunter because, “Good soldiers Follow Orders.”
The bunch heads back to Kamino, and was immediately met by a squadron of clones, and they were placed under arrest.
However, Tarkin wanted to get more information on Crosshair. The clones take Crosshair in for experimentation, and notice that Crosshair’s chip was indeed activated. When Tarkin sees that Crosshair’s chip is partially working, he enhances the chip’s control over Crosshair. While, Crosshair was under medical examination, the Bad Batch orchestrate an escape from their cell, and look to escape their home planet.
The group runs into Crosshair, and with his chip fully activated, Crosshair begins to open fire on the Bad Batch. The Bad Batch eventually escapes with Omega to begin their new journey where they are no longer part of the clone brotherhood.
Overall, I am very excited to see where this journey takes the Bad Batch. We know that we will still see Rex at some point, and I can’t wait. Maybe next episode?
I guess we will see on Friday (5/7). Will we see Vader at some point? What about Wolf and Gregor? Still a lot of question that I can’t wait to get the answer too.
Dave Filoni killed it again.
