Welcome to the first installment of “Thoughts From the Undead!” Since Covid-19 happened, TWD delayed the filming and release date of season 11. Usually a new season drops every October for 8 episodes and then comes back in March for another 8 episodes, but this year is not the case. They announced that 6 new episodes, tying into the season 10 story line and highlighting certain important characters, starting on February 28th . After these are released, TWD is going to come out with their final season, season eleven, with 24 new episodes. With all that being said, these are things that I want to see on The Walking Dead’s Season 10C (episodes 17-22)…
Maggie’s Return
The last time we saw Maggie was in last episode, “A Certain Doom” (season 10 episode 16), when she made her triumphant return, fighting The Whisperers. She saved Father Gabriel’s life, with help from the mystery “masked man.” The time we last saw her before then was season 9 episode 5, “What Comes After” when she stepped away to go see Georgie in the Commonwealth. One of the reasons why she did this was because of the actress that plays Maggie Rhee, Lauren Cohan, signed on a solo project called Whiskey Cavalier on ABC, but got cancelled after 1 season, so she returned to The Walking Dead. The time skip between season 9 and 10 was about six years, so I want to see what Maggie was up to all this time. I want to know if she met Georgie, what she was doing at the Commonwealth, who the “masked man” that was with her, and if she met anyone else along the way.
Hershel Jr’s Development
Connecting off of Maggie, I want to see Hershel Jr’s development. He hasn’t been on TV, just like Maggie. He is completely tied into Maggie’s story since Hershel is her son with Glenn. I want to see how much he has grown in the 6 years that he was gone. I also want to see if he will have an important story line down the road since Judith Grimes has one. Even though, TWD is ending next season, they already have a spin off show announced and I wouldn’t be surprised if Judith and Hershel will get a spin off show of their own, if they survive all the way through. The kids are the future of this show…
Negan & Maggie “Feud”
Things with Negan & Maggie will always be dicey. It all started when Negan killed Glenn, Maggie’s husband, on the season 7 premier, “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be”. He killed him with his weapon “Lucille” by bashing in his head in multiple times, in the legendary lineup. Many can argue that Daryl killed Glenn because Negan’s only target in the lineup was Abraham Ford through the process of “eenie meenie miney mo.” Daryl “killed” Glenn by punching Negan, after Negan killed Abraham, and to teach them a lesson about following rules and in line, he killed Glenn. After that moment, Maggie’s one mission was to kill Negan to avenge her husband’s death. In the season 8 finale, “Wrath”, Rick Grimes “saved” Negan’s life and Maggie wasn’t happy with that decision at all. She even tried to kill him in season 9 episode 5, “What Comes After”, but couldn’t will herself to do it because Negan was “not himself.” She said, “That Negan is all but dead, I don’t have to kill you.” During her absence, Negan was released from jail from Carol, in season 10 episode 12, “Walk With Us” to get closer to the main Whisper, Alpha. Negan killed Alpha for Carol and Carol kept Negan out of jail. I want to see the dynamic between Negan and Maggie. Maggie still and probably won’t ever forgive Negan for what he did. Negan has developed a few relationships in Alexandra’s walls with characters such as Carol, Lydia, and Judith. Daryl is still undecided with him since all the things Negan did to him in season 8, but I want to see if Maggie and Negan can coexist in Alexandra, or if Maggie will again try to kill Negan…
Negan’s Backstory
Negan is a complex character. You are first exposed to him with Jed’s group with Daryl, Abraham, & Sasha in season 6 episode 6, “Always Accountable”. Jed was a group called the saviors, that Negan was the leader of. You first see Negan in season 6 episode 16, “Last Day on Earth”. You meet him by instantly him killing two fan favorites, Glenn & Abraham with his weapon of choice, Lucille, a baseball bat wrapped with barbed wife . The whole 7th season is the group working with Negan but in season 8, they go to war with the saviors and try to kill him. He does unimaginable stuff like capturing Daryl & Sasha and killing Spencer & Olivia. By the end of the 8th season his life is spared by Rick Grimes and is set to rot in jail for the rest of his life. In season 10 episode 12, he is released by Carol and kills Alpha, the main villain of the whisperers. He is now living on the inside of Alexandra but many characters are still wary of him. The fans are split on him too. I personally think he redeemed himself and is a “good” guy. During the filming of season 10C, Negan’s actor, Jeffery Dean Morgan, wife in real life, Hilarie Burton is playing Lucille, his wife in the show. There is supposed to be a backstory of Negan before the apocalypse. I want to see what he was really like. I also want to see how he rose to power in the savors, and how he met all the leaders, especially Simon, his right hand man. We know his wife died from cancer. That was revealed when Negan was doing confession to Father Gabriel in season 8 episode 5, “The Big Scary U”. He turned into my third favorite character, behind Rick Grimes and Daryl Dixon. He has the best one liners in the show and I am really looking forward how they write his character. He better stay alive in the show until the end, just like how he did in the comic book…
The Commonwealth’s “Storm Troopers”
The commonwealth’s “storm troopers” were first introduced in the season 10 finale, “A Certain Doom” when Eugene, Princess, Ezekiel, and Yumiko got jumped by them. In the season 10C trailer you see Princess get thrown into an abandoned train car by one of them so you know the group got separated by one another. The only reason why they were there in the first place was because Eugene was supposed to meet this girl named Stephanie that she met on the radio. I think that Stephanie is connected to the commonwealth and the “storm troopers” are too. I want to see how they connect with this girl Stephanie, how it connects with Georgie’s & Maggie’s story line, and if any of it connects to Rick Grimes disappearance. We still haven’t seen Rick since season 9 episode 5, “What Comes After” and have no answers where he went. However, there is supposed to be a Rick Grimes movie coming out soon and a new Walking Dead show called, The World Beyond, currently wrapped its first of two seasons, to help us figure out where Rick ended up and why he hasn’t tried to go home.
What Happened to Connie
In season 10 episode 9, “Squeeze”, you see Magma and Connie get stuck in a Whisperer cave from the dynamite explosion caving in the opening for them to get out of. The group thought they were dead but Magma returned in season 10 episode 12, “Walk With Us” during the Whisperer attack at the Hilltop. Magma explained to the group that she and Connie had been able to camouflage themselves within the walker horde, got out of the cave, but got separated. You can never say never with The Walking Dead with character deaths. If you don’t see them die, you can’t assume they died. For example, Morales in season 1 episode 5, “Wildfire”, he left to Birmingham Alabama with his family, and was not seen until season 8. Everyone thought he was dead but he returned in season 8 episode 2, “The Damned”, but died in season 8 episode 3, “Monsters” by Daryl. You come to find out that Morales whole family died and he felt guilty because of it and joined the saviors. Daryl and her sister, Kelly, now search for her all the time… I want to see what happened to Connie after the events in the whisperer cave. I want to find out the question if Connie is actually alive or if she is in another community.
Daryl & Carol’s Relationship
Daryl and Carol’s relationship is a complex one. Some people see it as a brother and sister dynamic while other people think of it as a love interest. I personally think of it as a brother and sister dynamic. They have done everything together. It is crazy to think how far they have come. Carol from a fragile, abused, weak person, to now the warrior we see her today. Daryl, a racist, redneck, closed, only cares for himself, to the fan favorite, protagonist, and most trustworthy guy you’ll ever meet. I want to see if their relationship is going to grow into a romantic type, that most people want. AMC has already announced that there will be a spin off show with Daryl & Carol after season 11 wraps up, so you know they won’t be dying. I want to see what the future will bring between both of them since they have to support a show, with just the two of them.
