This is the moment I have waited for… Five long episodes; and let me tell you I had to sit through some terrible ones (looking at you “Diverged” and “Find Me”). I was hyped when this episode got announced and I am keeping the hype train going all the way to Sunday. Episode 22 is all about Negan! Negan has turned into my second favorite character that is on the show, right behind Daryl. I know he killed Glenn and Abraham right off the bat in “The Last Day on Earth”, but he has gone through the best character development and now he is a good guy. He even killed Alpha in “Walk With Us”. This episode is all about his backstory and his wife, Lucille, with some Maggie vs. Negan stuff on the side. We all know that Lucille is Negan’s iconic weapon of choice but she is also his wife before the apocalypse. What is really cool is the casting for this episode. Lucille is going to be played by Jeffery Dean Morgan’s (Negan) wife in real life, Hilarie Burton (Lucille). Their chemistry is going to be off the charts in this episode! I also am excited to see if Maggie actually accepts Negan at Alexandra since all of the history they have with each other. Did I say I am excited for this episode? This episode better not let me down and definitely be worth the wait, being the The Walking Dead’s season 10C finale…
The first promo we get is the trailer that airs after the previous episode, “Diverged”. There are a lot to unpack in this promo… First, you see the amazing casting of AMC with Lucille and the on screen chemistry they are going to have in this episode. You see what it was like with Negan and Lucille in the beginning of the apocalypse. We knew that Lucille had cancer because Negan told Gabriel at his “confession” in “The Big Scary U”, which she eventually died from. You see Negan get visibly angry and throw some glass which I think relates to the fact that Lucille is sick and he can’t do anything about it or she already died. When she dies from cancer, this is when Negan turns to the “dark side” and creates his iconic weapon Lucille (which we see from the trailer from a metal fence) and gets his leather jacket. You also see where Rick and Negan faced off in the season 8 finale, “Wrath”, so I think this is from when Negan escaped the first time in jail in “Adaptation”, where he already visited when he bashed in Glenn’s and Abraham’s head in “The Last Day on Earth”. You also hear one of Negan’s iconic lines, which I love so so so much, “Little pig, little pig, let me in”…
The next promo we get is the scene from AMC’s talk show about The Walking Dead, Talking Dead. It seems like Negan found the original Lucille that Michonne and Rick buried at the end of season 8, going into season 9. People are saying that this is the “Lucille” that Brandon gave him in “Adaptation” but I don’t see it. He has way too much attachment to this Lucille that he found in the ground. It seems like Negan’s appearance is from season 9 so I wonder where he put Lucille after he found it in the ground. There has been no signs that he has had it in season 10 so I wonder where it is. At the end of the promo, you see young Negan in a pickle. He is held hostage by a mystery character. Maybe this is Simon or some people that he worked together with to make the Savior’s with. It is probably just a side character that is going to get killed in this episode but it would be so cool if it was an ex-savior!
The next promo we get is from AMC’s Youtube channel. There is not a lot to go on in this promo. We mainly get stuff shown in the previous two trailers. You mainly see Jeffery Dean Morgan and Hilarie Burton share their experience filming together in “Here’s Negan”. The main thing in the show is another iconic quote from Negan. It is, “I am starting to think that I am capable of almost anything”. Negan is a quote machine and so many sticks out. He might be tied or right behind Abraham, Eugene, and Rick for having the most memorable/funny quotes in the show.
The last promo we get is the opening scene from “Here’s Negan”. Right after I watched this scene I hated it for all the wrong reasons. You see the obvious tension from Maggie and Negan. This tension leads to Negan getting banished from Alexandra and Negan has to move in somewhere else. Carol claims that the counsel voted him out but I don’t buy that at all. I think Maggie said either he has to leave or I will kill him myself. Negan has done so much for Carol and the rest of the community by killing Alpha. I know he will never comeback for all the horrible stuff he did in season 7 and 8 but it is definitely a start. By the end of the episode he better be brought back in Alexandra. In the first promo you saw Negan throw something in that house. This is definitely because he is mad that he got kicked out of his “home”. This is where he is going to have his flashbacks of Negan’s past. There are two Easter eggs in this promo. The first one is the song that Hershel Jr was singing to Maggie in the beginning was the same song that Carl sung to Negan in “Sing Me a Song” (My Little Sunshine). The second one is the house that Carol brings Negan to is Leah’s cabin in the woods that is shown in season 10 episode 18, “Find Me”. Negan’s redemption arc better not be for nothing and better be accepted back or else… Although, after he is banned this is when he is going to find his original Lucille weapon and this is where he is keeping it so the others can’t take it away from him or destroy it. I have real high expectations for this episode and after me watching these 4 promos, I am even more hyped than I was before and is definitely worth the 5 episode wait in The Walking Dead’s season 10C.
