High School
Jahmyr Gibbs played his high school football at Dalton High School located in the state of Georgia. After his junior season where he would rush for 1,431 yards and 20 touchdowns, the three star recruit at the time would commit to stay home and play for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. But after his senior season where he ran for 2,554 yards and 40 touchdowns, Gibbs started to receive more offers from big time schools that included Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. Gibbs ultimately decided that he would stay loyal to Georgia Tech and play for the Yellow Jackets the next year.
Georgia Tech
Gibbs spent two seasons with the Yellow Jackets. In 19 games, Gibbs would run for 1,206 yards and 8 touchdowns. Gibbs also added 59 receptions for 768 yards and 5 receiving touchdowns through the air. Gibbs made an impact with the Yellow Jackets from the jump and he was an incredible weapon for a team that lacked much talent on their offense. Gibbs decided that he would enter himself into the transfer portal in hopes of going to a better situation.
Alabama
Luckily for Gibbs, one of the teams who were vying for his services even when he was a high school recruit came calling in the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Tide the season prior had lost Brian Robinson to the NFL Draft and had a wide open spot for the lead back role in Tuscaloosa. Gibbs would transfer to Alabama and have his best season yet. Gibbs would compile a total of 1,370 yards from scrimmage and 10 total touchdowns. Gibbs felt like that he had done enough to feel comfortable with declaring for the NFL Draft, which he did after the season.
Strengths
One of the fastest players in this entire draft. He has the ability to take any carry to the house. He erases tackling angles and easily can split defenders with how fast he is. Can go from 0-60 in a blink of an eye.
He is a versatile weapon. Phenomenal in the passing game, can run angle routes, can line up in the slot.
Very hard to tackle in the open field, he’s very shifty and can make defenders miss with juke moves.
His vision is also good, can make cuts and find the holes well.
Weaknesses
He only has a few 20+ carry games under his belt, and doesn't profile as an every down back (199 pounds).
Isn’t particularly strong, doesn’t quite bounce off of defenders as often.
Has a tendency to not take the opportunities to cut runs inside, likes to bounce runs to the outside when he can because of his speed.
Overall:
Jahmyr Gibbs is an explosive weapon that a lot of teams would love to have on their roster. I do question if he can handle a full workload at the next level with his size, but this is a player who any smart play caller can have a field day with creating mismatches. His speed is out of this world and when you have a player who has that home run ability, he’s going to be a great addition to any offense. If he can prove that he can take on 230+ carries at the next level, then a team would be getting a steal in the 2nd round of the NFL Draft.
