The Buffalo Bills won their third consecutive AFC East title, and registered their fourth consecutive season with double digit wins. However, the Bills failed to make it to the Super Bowl, losing to the Bengals in the Divisional Round. The Bills failure in the playoffs is becoming a trend, and it’s a cause for concern as they head into 2023. Can this group get it done? The Miami Dolphins made their first playoff appearance since 2016. Miami’s dynamic receivers helped get QB Tua Tagovailoa on the right path, along with head coach Mike McDaniel. Tua’s season ultimately concluded after a concussion, and the Dolphins season ended in the Wildcard round of the playoffs. The New England Patriots took a step back in 2022. The departure of offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels was truly significant loss for the Patriots, as Matt Patricia and Joe Judge never were able to figure things out offensively. But, after hiring Bill O’Brien as the team’s new offensive coordinator, will they be able to get the offense back on track? The New York Jets showed some growth, but were hampered by the quarterback position. Zach Wilson and Mike White weren’t good enough and the team suffered because of it. But, the Jets may have a new quarterback incoming. The AFC East is improving, so what will in store for 2023?

In 2022, the NFC East may have been the best division in football. The Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and New York Giants all punched their ticket to the playoffs. The Eagles went 14-3, before falling to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. But, this season was certainly a success for the Eagles, as they officially established that Jalen Hurts was their quarterback of the future. Hurts was an MVP candidate, willing the Eagles to one of the league’s best offenses. The Cowboys were able to overcome QB Dak Prescott’s thumb injury early in the season, which sidelined him for about a month. The Cowboys were able to win a playoff game, as they beat Tom Brady’s Bucs on the road. But, they fell short in the Divisional round of the playoffs, losing to the 49ers (again). The Giants may have been the biggest surprise of the 2022 season. The Giants finished with a winning record for the first time since 2016, and won their first playoff game since 2011. Giants Head Coach Brian Daboll was able to get the offense on track, and QB Daniel Jones registered a career season. The arrow is pointing up for the Giants as they head into the 2023 season. The Washington Commanders represented the basement of the NFC East, as they were the lone team in that division to not make the playoffs. The Carson Wentz experiment at quarterback lasted for seven starts, but they were still able to go 8-8-1. QB Taylor Henicke kept them afloat, but their playoff hopes fell short for the second consecutive season. The teams in the NFC East combined for a record of 43-23-2. The 2022 season was a wild ride in the NFC East, will 2023 live up to the hype?

In 2022, the Cincinnati Bengals won their second consecutive AFC North title. They were the clear class of that division, winning eight consecutive games to end the regular season and 10 overall, before losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC title game. The Baltimore Ravens struggled to remain healthy in 2022, QB Lamar Jackson missed the last six games of the season. Jackson’s future is the lead AFC North storyline, and may even be the biggest storyline in the NFL this Spring. Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers were somehow able to register another season with a winning record, doing so behind rookie QB Kenny Pickett. It didn’t take the Steelers long to get the quarterback situation figured out. The Cleveland Browns found themselves at the bottom of the AFC North. QB Deshaun Watson missed the first 11 games of the season with his suspension. But, once Watson returned he did not look like himself. Will he be able to get back on track in 2023? The AFC North is set up to be one of the most exciting divisions in football.
